Current Design Style

My entire design aesthetic entirely changed when I moved to Portland. I always thought my design style was girly or vintage inspired (Chateau as we like to call it at Anthropologie) but once I started picking out furniture for the apartment, that was the farthest thing from what I gravitated towards! All of a sudden I wanted everything to be clean, white but with pops of color, all of the exposed wood, plants galore etc. etc. I wanted it to represent a cabin in some ways. A place you could cozy up with a cup of tea and read a great book.

It's so interesting how our personal style and design style can be different. I feel like my design style in clothing form would be straight out of Madewell or the menswear trend. I want neutral, earth colors and I want as many pieces of wood as you can find me, pleaseandthankyou. In reality my clothing style is a lot more classic and feminine.

I am currently lusting over a big plant to put in the apartment but I know it can get pricey. Anyone have some recommendations on a place to get a good plant? #help ALSO, how amazing is that "WORK HARD AND BE NICE TO PEOPLE" print??? It's way too pricey for me right now but it's from this amazing store in town, Schoolhouse Electric. I want all of the things from there. I actually wouldn't mind if they just designed my apartment. :) The plant, National Park map and the print are all from there.

The Bathroom Reveal

Remember when I showed the wallpaper plans for the downstairs bathroom renovation in THIS post? Well, we finished the bathroom about a month and a half ago yet I never got around to taking pictures of the finished product! I'm really proud of how it turned out considering how skeptical my mom was of the wallpaper at first. We were originally going to wallpaper the whole bathroom in the marble print but realized that would be a little much considering how small the bathroom is and how little light is present. Instead, we spent quite a bit of time going over the perfect grey color to compliment the marble for the back wall and I think it helps make the marble standout while also not making it seem like it's too much. 

One of the favorite parts of the room and the one that was the most recent addition was the distressed shelf. We wanted the room to be modern but also fit in with the rest of the house, which is more French Country. I scoured the internet for quite a while to find the perfect shelf and I found the right one on Etsy in the Blue Ridge Sawdust shop! Check them out HERE! They did such a nice job and the color of the shelf is completely customizable. 

To complete the shelf, my mom and I went to the Sutter St. Vintage Fair and we picked up all three of the frames for super cheap. We then went to our favorite store on Sutter St., Roost, and picked up the gold candle. We got the succulents, the little yellow vase and the "H" book at one of our favorite boutiques in Truckee! 

One of my favorite pieces though, is the frame of my grandma and grandpa taken outside a bar in Berkeley. They are so young and are looking at each other in the sweetest way. I loved being able to add such a loving touch to the room. 

And that's it! It was such a fun project but definitely not something I could do all the time. I commend all of you interior decorators out there!!

{Why Knot} Do a Bathroom Renovation

The downstairs bathroom in my parents house has always been the most dramatic bathroom in the home. When we moved in the original owners had a beautiful French themed wallpaper all throughout the room and a huge gilded mirror. I loved that bathroom but my mom quickly got tired of it. One day she decided to see how easy it would be to rip off the wallpaper and ripped one piece off but then left it like that for at least a year.

A couple of weeks ago she told me that since I'm home now, it's time to redo the bathroom. So one morning we locked ourselves in there with the shower filling the room with steam and we went to work. Unfortunately, we didn't think too far ahead and the room has now been wallpaper-less for a week and a half. Not very attractive.

So these are our ideas! The first one is Emily from Cupcakes & Cashmere's powder room wallpaper that I absolutely fell in love with. It's ultra dramatic and makes you take notice. Unfortunately my dad was not as excited about the room being filled with flowers. So then I thought of marble....

I did some digging through the internet and found this incredible marble wallpaper. I LOVED the light blue but my dad still thought that was too feminine so we are going with the black & white. (yay!!)

I knew we would need a new mirror because the original one really only worked for the previous wallpaper. I would love to go really simple and get the Eleanor frameless mirror from Potterbarn in the oval and have it hanging. My mom kind of likes the West Elm one (the 1st one) but I'm trying to convince her to go simple because the wallpaper is so dramatic.

Hopefully we will be ordering the wallpaper within the week and I can show some before and after shots soon!

Any thoughts? What kind of mirror do you think we should do??

My Room :)

Sometimes it's hard to face reality. And right now, my reality is that my sister is going to take over my beloved room come September. I have invested a lot of time into this room and honestly, it's what many would call a dream room. It has tilted ceilings and nooks, and natural sunlight all day long. I'm going to miss this room tremendously.

But for now, here are some pictures of my room:
